Meet the Aztec Behind Tahona Bar

Alumnus and owner of Tahona Bar in Old Town, Zach Herr (‘13) shares how his SDSU experiences helped him take the leap of faith to pursue his passion.

After graduating from San Diego State University with a degree in Exercise and Nutritional Sciences, Zach Herr (‘13) soon realized that the career path he had originally envisioned wasn’t the right fit for him.

Drawing on the experiences he gained at SDSU, Herr felt confident exploring opportunities outside of the traditional career path associated with his degree. His time at SDSU taught him to step outside of his comfort zone, embrace new opportunities, and pursue the things that genuinely interested him.

Today, Herr is the Managing Partner of Tahona Bar in San Diego’s historic Old Town, where he has turned his passion for hospitality into a unique experience. Through his love of Mezcal and culture, Herr ensures every customer is met with a warm experience and a sense of community.
